When It Rains, It Pours

Let’s be honest, Edmonton and Red Deer: 2026 has been less “Alberta summer” and more “aquatic adventure we never signed up for.”

June decided to rewrite the record books. Edmonton smashed its wettest June ever with over 260 mm of rain — blowing past a record that had stood since 1914. By late July the city had already blasted through the previous summer rainfall record from 1953 (417 mm), with some stations topping 500 mm and still climbing. Red Deer wasn’t far behind: a near-double-normal June (almost 187 mm) that left the ground feeling like a sponge that had given up on life. July dried out a bit in Central Alberta, but the overall vibe of the season has been “bring a canoe to the backyard BBQ.”

We’ve all lived it. The lawn chairs that floated away. The patio furniture that developed gills. The moment you looked out the window and wondered if the ducks were now the new homeowners. Kids built boats. Adults built floating decks by accident.
